StarLab comes to Mater Christi School

February 2, 2018

Mater Christi School elementary students explored the constellations in the school’s gymnasium in a portable planetarium; StarLab, a program from the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, offers students a visual experience of the night skies, contained within a 22-foot inflatable dome. The program was sponsored by Mater Christi School’s PTO, and dovetails with the school’s commitment to science and technology through its curriculum and Makerspace program. Makerspace programming is integrated across the curriculum in grades k-8 to provide 21st Century learning opportunities within traditional units of study; elementary coding curriculum starts in kindergarten where students are introduced to computer science concepts, including frame of reference, sequential problem solving, function loops and conditionals as part of their classroom math program.
