Your child is eligible to take instrumental music lessons at Mater Christi School. They are being offered to students at Mater Christi in grades 4 through 8. Even though many of the bands are during the school day, and the program is generously supported by the school, this band program is a separate, private program, run by Barbara Heath.

Beginner Band and lessons are after school. There is a fee for all bands and lessons which is explained in detail on the Fall fee sheet. The cost for band and lessons is approximately $9.00/week. Payments are made two times per school year. This price is for two band rehearsals and one half hour group lesson per week. No student shall be deprived of this wonderful opportunity because of funds. Please don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions or concerns. There may be an additional cost to rent instruments from Ellis Music Company or to purchase.

Mrs. Barbara Heath is the director and will be teaching all lessons and bands. Mrs. Heath is a graduate of UVM with teaching degrees in both math and music. She started the band program at Mater Christi School in the spring of 1998. Since then, the program has doubled in size, with over ninety students participating and five different bands offered, including Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Intro Jazz and Select Jazz. Many of the 7th and 8th graders participate in the district band festival, VYO, the IAJE jazz festival, and Discover Jazz Festival on Church Street. Mrs. Heath taught Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Select Jazz, at Rice High School, for six years, and now Rice Drum line and Marching band, as well as private saxophone students. She is director and conductor of the Richmond Community Band and founder and conductor of the Vermont Summer Youth Band.® Mrs. Heath is a member of MENC, International Association of Jazz Educators, and the National Association of Music Education.
