Volunteers have always been a very important part of Mater
Christi School. The mission and ministry of our school would
be diminished without you and the many other adults that volunteer.
Whether volunteers are helping in the library, monitoring
in the dining room, presenting a lesson from the Four Winds
Nature Institute, driving on a field trip or participating
in one of the many other areas of the school, they provide
our students with opportunities and services that they would
otherwise not have. The generous gifts of time and talent
given by volunteers are remarkable and are deeply appreciated
by teachers and administrators. We are so glad to have volunteers
as partners in our educational community.
Safety in all areas is paramount for students, parents, volunteers
and the school. Brother Robert Bimonte, from the Department
for Elementary Schools for the National Catholic Education
Association stated, "As the world becomes more complex
and our focus on the safety of children has become more acute,
it is important that any and all adults working with young
people in schools and parishes fully understand their role
and responsibility." The Administration and the Board
of Trustees has taken one more step to ensure the safety of
our students. Beginning July 1, 2007 all people wishing to
volunteer any place in the school will be required to complete
a comprehensive Criminal Background Check which includes fingerprinting
and background search. Adults will not be allowed to volunteer
until their results have been received and reported back to
the school via the diocesan office. Thereafter, with the exception
of moving out of state, volunteers would be required to complete
the annual paperwork for a statewide background check only,
which does not require fingerprints and is free.
Comprehensive Check - $33.00 ($15.00 for fingerprinting,
$18.00 for the background check.)

Annual Statewide Check - Free
The background checks are important for three reasons:
(1) to protect young people
(2) to protect the volunteer
(3) to protect the school from liability.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free
to call the school at 658-3992. We look forward to working
with you as a volunteer during the upcoming school year.
